Avoiding Sugar on the HCG Diet

Avoiding Sugar on the HCG Diet

The design of the HCG diet is to help you lose weight in a short period by suppressing your hunger and appetite. During the weight loss program, you cannot eat foods containing sugar and carbs. Sugar is one of the known causes of obesity. It doubles the rate of overweight individuals in the US by ninety percent.

What Happens if You Have Sugar on the HCG Diet?

If sugar is brought into phase 2 and phase 3 of the HCG diet, it can compromise your results.  Any forms of sugar and sweeteners are not permissible during the very low-calorie phase of the weight loss regimen. Incorporating sugar may also worsen your cravings and will end up overeating.

The Reason You Should Not Take Sugar on HCG Diet

  1. Sugar can cause insulin resistance, diabetes, and weight gain

Your body can become insulin resistant when there is an excess amount of sugar in your blood. This stops your pancreas from doing its job properly which can lead to diabetes. An excess amount of insulin in the blood also signals your body to store fats which can lead to obesity.

  1. Sugar is an empty calorie

Ice cream, cakes, pastries, and soda are high-sugar foods that are just empty calories with no nutrient value. Consuming these foods often will not provide your body with the nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

  1. It’s addictive

Sugar is addictive and when you eat sugar-rich food it causes a dopamine release in the brain. Dopamine is a feel-good chemical, the same one that’s activated by prohibited drugs. Once you’ve started consuming sugar, it becomes difficult for you to stop, not only because it is addictive, but because it is also rewarding and attractive to the brain.

  1. Sugar can cause cancer

High sugar intake increases your risk of colon cancer, breast cancer, and other cancers. Having too much sugar in your body promotes the growth of cancer cells by causing the body to produce too much insulin.

  1. Sugar can make you age prematurely

The consumption of sugar can damage collagen and elastin production, which results in premature aging. It attaches to your bloodstream proteins, resulting in an advanced glycation end product.

  1. Sugar may increase your risk of heart disease

Your risk of heart disease increases if you consume too much sugar. Sugar lowers good cholesterol and raises bad cholesterol and triglycerides.
