Can You Eat Chocolate on HCG Diet?

For chocoholics, one concern on the diet protocol is whether they can eat chocolate on the HCG diet or not. The HCG diet is a low-calorie diet that goals to cut down your intake of foods that triggers weight gain. This only means that sugar and carbs are not permissible throughout the fat-burning phase or phase 2 of the HCG diet.

Before cutting your calorie intake, you have to know your weight loss goal. Identify the real reason why you want to lose weight. This will help in preventing problems that are related to weight. You can also include planning for your weight loss meal plan during this time.

Are Chocolates Permissible in the HCG Diet?

Chocolates are permissible for Phase 1 of the HCG diet or the loading phase. However, it is important to focus loading on fats and other foods to prepare your fat stores for the VLCD. Ensure that you administer the HCG injection starting from day 1 of the loading phase up to the end of your Phase 2 or VLCD.

Here is a Chocolate Recipe for Phase 1 of the HCG Diet

  • 2 tablespoon of melted coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • Sweetener to taste such as liquid stevia

Preparation method:

  • Fluff the cocoa powder with a fork to break up any clumps then add the melted coconut oil.
  • Stir until there is a smooth consistency and pour the liquid or powdered stevia in varying amounts depending on your preference for bitter or sweet chocolate.
  • Simply taste the mixture and decide if you would like to add more sweetener. Beware that too much stevia can cause a bitter taste.
  • Pour the liquid mixture into paper baking cups or a small container lined with foil. Place the container in the fridge or freezer for 20 minutes.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Avoid eating chocolate or any sugary treats during the second phase of the HCG diet. Stick to loading organic and freshly picked products throughout the diet duration.

Chocolates for Phase 3 of the HCG Diet

Phase 3 of the HCG diet permits a lot more freedom to explore while still staying in the realm of a healthy diet.  For phase 3, you could have some chocolate that is sweetened with stevia or that is 100% dark chocolate with no sweetener at all. However, sugar is not yet permissible during this phase as per the original protocol of this diet.

Although, many HCG dieters who have completed several rounds of HCG have become comfortable with the program and experiment with breaking the protocol. These dieters have learned which foods cause gains for them and as such are more comfortable breaking protocol and going a bit rogue on the diet such as eating chocolates. But, it is always better to stick to the protocol to avoid any problems such as plateaus, and weight gain.
